Commissioner Karachi Naqvi orders crackdown on profiteers

Karachi administration fines 216 shopkeepers over Rs2.22 million, checks 809 locations, conducts commodity auctions under Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi’s strict anti-profiteering drive.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - The city administration continued its crackdown against profiteers for the second consecutive day, taking action against 216 shopkeepers and imposing fines exceeding Rs2.22 million.

Prices were inspected at 809 locations across the city.

On the directives of Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, auctions of fruits and essential commodities were conducted at 105 locations. Items auctioned included flour, sugar, chicken, vegetables, beef, and fruits such as bananas, guava, oranges, watermelon and strawberries.

Deputy commissioners remained present in the field, personally monitoring prices. Additional Commissioner-I Ghulam Mehdi also visited Empress Market and supervised auctions.

Commissioner Naqvi directed officials to take strict action against profiteers without leniency, stressing that citizens must be provided relief. Meanwhile, two assistant commissioners were issued notices seeking explanations over alleged negligence.
