WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - US President Donald Trump said that Gaza Board of Peace is a forum meant for achieving durable peace in the world.

He was addressing the first meeting of Gaza Board of Peace being held in Washington. The session is being held at the Donald Trump Institute of Peace and brings together senior leaders and officials, including Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, US Vice President JD Vance, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and representatives from Indonesia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan and other member states of the forum.

The meeting has been convened to oversee governance and reconstruction efforts in Gaza following the ceasefire.

In his opening remarks, President Trump praised Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, describing him as “a great man, an outstanding commander and a tough fighter.”

Trump said that General Munir had commended him for helping halt a conflict and save millions of lives.

The US president also expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying he held him in high regard and valued his support for ceasefire efforts.

Trump credited Secretary of State Marco Rubio, envoy Steve Witkoff, and adviser Jared Kushner for their work related to Gaza, adding that the Board of Peace includes “many wonderful countries” united in pursuit of stability.

“We must work even harder for peace. There is no better forum than this Board of Peace to achieve our goals,” he said.

The US president further claimed that his administration was close to ending what he described as the ninth global conflict during his tenure, noting that some wars had persisted for more than three decades.

“There is nothing greater than peace in the world,” Trump said, referencing a recent peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to US officials, the forum aims to establish an international administrative framework for post-war Gaza that can ensure peace, facilitate rebuilding efforts and coordinate sustained humanitarian support.
