Punjab government vows strict action against overpricing during Ramadan, while expanding relief initiatives, financial assistance and subsidised food supply for millions of deserving families

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that profiteering will not be tolerated during Ramazan and strict enforcement of price controls will be ensured across the province.

Addressing a press conference, she said the provincial government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is providing financial assistance to deserving families through the Nigahban Ramadan Package.

More than four million families are being given Rs10,000 each, with Ramazan relief cards being delivered to homes.

She said distribution of the cards will be completed by March 10 and added that no charges or PIN codes are required for using the cards.

She also announced that daily iftar meals for around 2,000 people per tehsil will be arranged under the “Maryam Ke Mehman Dastarkhwan” initiative.

Special Assistant for Food Safety and Consumer Protection Salma Butt said more than 4.2 million families will receive cards, including newly added beneficiaries and minority community households.

Officials said subsidised food items will be available at Ramadan bazaars, including sugar, flour, chicken and eggs at reduced prices compared with the open market.
