Saudi Arabia, Gulf States and Afghanistan mark beginning of Ramazan

Iraq, Oman, Turkiye, Indonesia and Malaysia will observe their first fast tomorrow.

(Web Desk) - The holy month of Ramazan has commenced in Saudi Arabia, Gulf countries and Afghanistan, where Muslims are observing their first fast today.

Spiritually uplifting scenes were witnessed last night at the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, as thousands of worshippers gathered to offer the first Taraweeh prayers of the blessed month. Devotees from around the world expressed gratitude for witnessing Ramazan and prayed for forgiveness and peace.

Meanwhile, Iraq, Oman, Turkiye, Indonesia and Malaysia will observe their first fast tomorrow. In Central Asian states including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, Ramadan will begin on Thursday. Bangladesh, India, Japan, Singapore, Australia and France are also expected to observe the first fast tomorrow.

In Pakistan, the sighting of the Ramazan moon will be decided today. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will hold its key meeting in Peshawar under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committee meetings will also take place across the country to collect moon sighting testimonies.

According to the Meteorological Department and relevant experts, there are strong chances of moon sighting in various parts of the country. A formal announcement regarding the start of Ramazan is expected following the committee’s meeting.
