Punjab government announces aid for over 4 million families during Ramazan, including Rs10,000 ration cards. Strict price controls, Sahulat bazaars, and Iftar meals for the needy are also planned

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has announced provision of assistance to over 4 million families during the holy month of Ramazan.

Speaking at a meeting on the “Nigahban Ramazan 2026,” Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that this is a month of mercy and compassion, celebrated with respect worldwide.

She highlighted that prices of essential items often rise in Pakistan during Ramazan, unlike other countries where special discount counters are set up.

Maryam Nawaz urged all stakeholders, including commissioners, DCs, the Price Control Department, and Clean Punjab, to contribute to ensuring affordable prices during the month. The government is distributing Ramazan Nigahban Cards to families, which will enable them to purchase up to Rs10,000 worth of ration.

As of now, 400,000 cards have been distributed, and the rest will be delivered to families at their doorsteps.

The chief minister said the cards did not require activation, and recipients will be able to withdraw cash from over 9,200 ATMs across the province.

Maryam Nawaz also warned against any retailer charging extra money and urged citizens to file complaints with the Punjab Police, which will act promptly. The initiative also extends to the Christian community, who will receive the same financial support during Ramazan.

The chief minister emphasized that strict actions will be taken against hoarding and profiteering, with the Para Force being deployed to control prices across Punjab. The price control operation will continue throughout the month.

Additionally, government-subsidized Ramzan Sahulat bazaars will be available to help people with limited financial means. Maryam Nawaz encouraged philanthropists to organize Iftar and Sehar meals, with certificates from the government for those contributing. Over 300 Iftar gatherings will be set up by philanthropists in 147 districts of Punjab.
