Ahsan Iqbal to attend oath ceremony of Bangladesh's new PM

Ahsan Iqbal will attend Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman’s oath ceremony on February 17, as Shehbaz Sharif is on an international tour. BNP won 209 seats, securing a majority in the elections

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal will attend the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s newly-elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman tomorrow (Tuesday).

Sources said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is unable to attend the ceremony due to his an international tour. However, it is expected that the premier will visit Bangladesh soon to personally congratulate PM Tarique Rahman.

The event is likely to be attended by heads of state from various countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, India, Turkiye, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

According to official results released by the Election Commission of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won 209 out of 299 seats, securing a clear majority, while Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the second-largest party with 68 seats.
