NEW DELHI (Reuters) – Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will not be travelling to India next week for an India “AI Impact Summit,” which global technology industry and political leaders are likely to attend, the company said on Saturday.

Huang was expected to be one of the biggest attractions at the summit, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

While Huang was due to address the media in New Delhi on Wednesday, the company's media agency in India, MSL, said in an email that he would not be traveling due to "unforseen circumstances."

The “AI Impact Summit” is an international summit on artificial intelligence (AI) and will be held in Indian capital New Delhi from February 16 to 20.

On February 5, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with India's IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and said India is now OpenAI’s second-largest market by number of users, which have tripled in the past year.

Altman discussed with Vaishnaw India's plan of creating a low-cost AI ecosystem. Altman lauded the country’s rapid AI adoption and growing ambitions.

It was Altman's first visit since 2023 to India, where his company faces legal challenges.
