COLOMBO (Dunya News) – Pakistan national T20 captain Salman Ali Agha has described spinner Usman Tariq as the team’s “trump card” ahead of the high profile match against India, stating that detailed plans have been prepared for the entire opposition side.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, the skipper stressed that the squad is focused on execution and adapting to match conditions.
Addressing the media, Salman Ali Agha said every player in the squad is equally important, but credited Usman Tariq as a major tactical advantage. He noted that public and media attention had elevated the spinner’s profile and said the team views him as a decisive option going into the contest.
The captain also responded to ongoing discussion around Usman Tariq’s bowling action. He confirmed that the spinner has already been cleared twice and questioned why the issue continues to be raised. According to him, the repeated scrutiny has not affected the bowler’s confidence or preparation, adding that opinions cannot be controlled and everyone is entitled to their view.
Looking ahead to the India fixture, he said the team expects another top level contest and is fully prepared. He added that the squad is well aware of local conditions and understands the pitch behaviour in Colombo. Weather remains an uncontrollable factor, he said, but the management has already prepared alternative strategies in case rain reduces the number of overs.
Salman Ali Agha emphasised that all 15 squad members remain in contention for selection and the final playing XI will be decided after assessing match conditions. He expressed confidence in senior batter Babar Azam, saying his run scoring form is not a concern for the team and expressing hope that he will deliver again in the upcoming match.
Referring to past global tournament results against India national cricket team, the captain acknowledged that Pakistan’s World Cup record against India has not been strong, but said the side has learned from history and is working to produce a better performance this time. He confirmed that match plans have been drawn up covering India’s full playing XI.
When asked about aggressive Indian batter Abhishek Sharma, Salman Ali Agha said he hopes the player is recovering well and will be available for his team. He added that captaincy brings extra responsibility and pressure, especially when representing the country, with public expectations always high, and reiterated that the focus remains on delivering quality cricket on the field.
