Electricity transmission losses exceed Rs600 billion in two years

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s electricity transmission losses have exceeded Rs 600 billion over the past two years, according to a written reply submitted by Federal Minister for Power Division Owais Laghari to the National Assembly.

The government acknowledged 10-hour or more load shedding on several feeders across major distribution companies. For example:

Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO): 604 out of 814 feeders affected SEPCO: 407 of 707 feeders TESCO: 174 of 357 feeders PESCO: 642 of 1,376 feeders HESCO: 322 of 747 feeders Hazara Electric Company: 37 of 286 feeders

No feeder reported over 10-hour load shedding in LESCO, IESCO, GEPCO, and FESCO.

Between July and December 2025, electricity consumers used 8.78 billion units, and protected consumers increased from 9.5 million in October 2021 to 21.55 million nationwide.

By December 2025, net metering capacity reached 7,000 MW, while off-grid solar capacity rose to 12.62 MW.

Transmission losses in the last two fiscal years were:

FY 2024-25: Rs 284 billion FY 2023-24: Rs 322 billion

The largest losses among distribution companies were reported in:

PESCO: Rs 96 billion LESCO: Rs 46 billion SEPCO: Rs 37 billion HESCO: Rs 22 billion

The data highlights the need for better management, reduced losses, and improved electricity supply across the country.
