West Indies defeated England by 30 runs in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, powered by Sherfane Rutherford’s 76* and Gudakesh Motie’s three wickets.

MUMBAI (Dunya News) – West Indies outclassed England by 30 runs in their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Group C clash at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, claiming their second victory of the tournament.

Opting to bat first, the Caribbean side posted a formidable 196-6 in 20 overs, led by a sensational unbeaten 76 from Sherfane Rutherford. The left-hander struck two fours and seven sixes, anchoring a strong innings, while Jason Holder added a quick 31 off 17 balls and Roston Chase contributed 34 from 29 deliveries. England got off to a rapid start with Phil Salt scoring 30 off 14 balls, but the visitors’ middle-order collapsed under pressure. Jacob Bethell made a composed 33 before falling to Gudakesh Motie, who spearheaded the West Indies bowling attack with figures of 3-33 in four overs. Captain Jos Buttler managed 21, and Sam Curran remained unbeaten on 43, but wickets tumbled around him, leaving England all out for 166 in 19 overs.

The West Indies spinners were key to the victory, taking six wickets in succession in the middle overs. Roston Chase claimed two wickets, while Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Shamar Joseph picked up one each. England’s bowlers, led by Jamie Overton and Adil Rashid with two wickets apiece, struggled to contain the West Indies’ explosive batting lineup.

Sherfane Rutherford’s innings was punctuated by moments of luck, surviving two dropped catches at 23 and 56, but he capitalised with aggressive strokeplay, supported by late-order hitting from Holder and Chase. England’s Jofra Archer continued to struggle with his line, leaking runs and failing to apply sustained pressure.

The result leaves England needing wins against Scotland and Italy to progress to the Super 8s, while West Indies reinforce their credentials as one of the tournament’s strong contenders.
