LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - The Independent Group staged a major power show in Lahore as prominent lawyers’ groups gathered under one platform ahead of the Lahore High Court Bar elections.
The event was held at a local hotel where Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan hosted a dinner in honour of newly elected members of the Pakistan Bar Council.
Thousands of lawyers attended, including Independent Group head Ahsan Bhoon, Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Pir Masood Chishti, senior legal figures, and political personalities such as Fawad Chaudhry, who was seen sharing the stage with the Speaker.
Addressing the gathering, Ahsan Bhoon said the Asma Jahangir Group was not a political faction but a platform dedicated to lawyers’ welfare. He announced Raja Aamir as their candidate for President of the Lahore High Court Bar, claiming support from multiple political parties including PTI, PPP, and PML-N.
Bhoon warned against alleged vote rigging through computerized systems and vowed that the bar election, scheduled for February 28, would not be “stolen.”
Pir Masood Chishti also reaffirmed full support for Raja Aamir, calling him a consensus candidate backed by all major groups.
Other speakers, including former Vice Chairman Ramzan Chaudhry, also announced complete support for Raja Aamir, pledging unity for the welfare of the legal community.
