ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) Government expenditures during the first half of the current fiscal year, from July to December, stood at Rs10.141 trillion, according to official documents released by the Ministry of Finance.
The documents show that spending increased by Rs6.061 trillion in the second quarter compared to the first. During July to September, the budget balance narrowed sharply from Rs2.119 trillion to Rs541 billion.
Despite heavy spending, the finance ministry reported a primary surplus of Rs4.105 trillion during the six-month period, while total government revenues reached Rs10.683 trillion. Tax revenues amounted to Rs6.729 trillion, while non-tax revenues stood at Rs3.954 trillion. Federal revenues were recorded at Rs6.160 trillion, with provincial revenues contributing Rs568 billion.
During the six months, the government spent Rs3.563 trillion on debt servicing and Rs1.044 trillion on defense. Additional expenditures included Rs504 billion on pensions, Rs380 billion on civil government operations, and Rs462 billion in subsidies.
The government borrowed Rs34 billion from external sources and Rs575 billion domestically. The central bank transferred Rs2.428 trillion in profits to the government during the period.
Under the NFC award, Rs3.616 trillion was distributed among provinces, with Punjab receiving Rs1.796 trillion, Sindh Rs901 billion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rs586 billion, and Balochistan Rs322 billion.
