IG Punjab directs police to remain alert during Basant Festival

Inspector General of Punjab Police Rao Abdul Kareem said that citizens should demonstrate responsibility for the protection of precious human lives and comply with the law.

LAHORE (Dunya News): Inspector General of Punjab Police Rao Abdul Kareem on Thursday directed Lahore police to remain on high alert during Basant Festival in Lahore, Dunya News reported.

The IG Punjab ordered that SOPs be strictly implemented to ensure a safe and enjoyable Basant during February 6, 7, and 8 in Lahore. He instructed police to adopt zero tolerance against violations such as aerial firing, display of weapons, misconduct, obscenity, and any activities that disturb public peace.

He said that strict action should be taken against the use of metallic, chemical, or prohibited kite strings. The ban on kite flying remains in place around the airport, air routes, sensitive installations, and prohibited areas.

Police officers were directed to ensure strict monitoring of compliance with the government’s code of conduct during the three-day Basant Festival.

The IG Punjab further said that citizens should demonstrate responsibility for the protection of precious human lives and comply with the law.
