Punjab govt unveils free transport plan for Basant in Lahore

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has unveiled the free transport plan for the Basant Festival 2026, aiming to facilitate smooth and affordable travel for citizens across Lahore during the celebrations.

Under the plan, special bus services will operate on multiple routes throughout the city.

A total of 199 buses from the Mass Transit Authority and Punjab Transport Company will be deployed, while an additional 131 buses from the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) will also be brought into operation.

Officials said the buses will run in shifts from various depots, with Jinnah Terminal, Lahore Railway Station, and Green Town designated as central depots.

The longest route will run from Jinnah Terminal to BRB Canal, covering a distance of approximately 36 kilometres.

Authorities said the entire city will be covered through the special transport arrangement during Basant, with routes divided strategically to ensure maximum accessibility.
