Senate, National Assembly sessions today as key legislative bills set for debate

Senate and National Assembly meet today with packed agendas, including key amendment bills, issues of polio, stranded students in Afghanistan, and further debate on the President’s address

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The secretariats of the Senate and National Assembly have issued agendas for their respective sessions scheduled for today, featuring key legislative business and national issues.

The Senate will meet at 4:00 pm with a 23-point agenda.

Several important bills will be introduced, including amendments related to the Federal Employees Benevolent Fund and Group Insurance, criminal laws, anti-human trafficking, and cybercrime laws.

Amendments to the Pakistan Penal Code, Family Courts Act, and a bill banning corporal punishment against children in Islamabad are also included.

Additionally, three bills already passed by the National Assembly - the Zakat and Ushr Amendment Bill, the Elections Amendment Bill, and the Al-Biruni International University Islamabad Bill - will be presented for Senate approval.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly session will begin at 5:00 pm with a 13-point agenda. Lawmaking and key national matters will be discussed.

Attention notices will be raised regarding Pakistani students stranded in Afghanistan and the emergence of new polio cases in the country.

Reports on amendments to the Centers of Excellence Act 1974 and the Islamabad Senior Citizens Act will be presented.

The agenda also includes the PEMRA Amendment Bill 2025, amendments to APP Corporation laws, and changes to newspaper employees’ service conditions.

Further debate will be held on the motion thanking the President for his address to Parliament.

Separately, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has convened a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee at 4:00 pm, one hour before the session, to discuss the agenda for the 24th parliamentary session.
