LAHORE (Dunya News) - Sale and purchase of kites and twines get momentum in the city after permission by the Punjab government, with great rush of kite lovers at all designated shops.
Mochi Gate, Mozang, Liberty, Baghbanpura and Shahbagh are among the city localities which witness Basant festivities ahead of the festival.
Colourful kites of different sizes are attracting buyers, with many of them complaining about high prices of strings and kites.
Five days are left for Basant, which Lahorites say are quite short as everything pertaining to Basant is in short supply.
Dozens of buyers could be seen returning home empty-handed or with assurance from the sellers that new supply will arrive soon.
A model of two large kites at Liberty Chowk enhanced the beauty of the city. Various highways have been decorated with kite models, which show Basant preparations have reached their peak in Lahore.
The rush of citizens to shops increased. Buying and selling is allowed until February 8, after which there will be a complete ban on making and selling kites.
Authorities have allowed 2,246 traders to conduct sales across Lahore. The buying and selling of kites and related items has been permitted from February 1 to February 8, after which a complete ban on the manufacturing and sale of kites will come into effect.
According to reports, 2,504 traders have applied online so far. Of these, 163 registrations are still under process, while 95 applications have been rejected. The registration process will remain open until February 8, and more traders are expected to be registered in the coming days.
