Inquiry in Lahore woman’s death finds SP and SHO guilty of assaulting her husband during detention, confirmed by CCTV; pressure alleged to confess to murder.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Following the death of a woman in Lahore’s Bhaati area, an inquiry ordered by the Chief Minister of Punjab into alleged police assault on her husband, Ghulam Murtaza, has been completed by the Internal Accountability Branch.

The investigation was conducted by Additional IG Imran Mehmood, DIG Nasir Aziz Virk, and DIG Imran Kishwar. The inquiry found SP City Bilal and SHO Bhaati Zain responsible for misconduct.

According to the report, both officers took Ghulam Murtaza to Bhaati Police Station without questioning any accompanying relatives. The girl’s father was immediately contacted, and a relative named Tanveer was also detained at the station.

Ghulam Murtaza was allegedly assaulted in the SHO’s office, confirmed by CCTV footage in the room. He was held in illegal detention for nearly five hours. During the inquiry in Shorkot, he stated that police pressured him to accept responsibility for killing his wife and daughter.

In contrast, the SP and SHO claimed only minor physical force was used. Police officials stated that, based on information from rescue teams and other agencies, it was deemed impossible that the woman drowned, which led to Ghulam Murtaza being taken to the station for questioning.
