Clarke, Finch surprised by Haris Rauf's exclusion from T20 World Cup squad

Michael Clarke and Aaron Finch expressed surprise at Haris Rauf's exclusion from Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad, despite his strong BBL performances.

(Web Desk) – Former Australian captains Michael Clarke and Aaron Finch have expressed surprise at the exclusion of Pakistan's fast bowler Haris Rauf from the T20 World Cup squad.

Both Australian cricketers made the statements when they were asked about Rauf's omission despite his outstanding performances in the Big Bash League (BBL). Finch, in particular, said he was "quite surprised" that Rauf wasn't included in the squad.

He highlighted that Rauf brought an "X-factor" to the team, though he occasionally proved to be a bit expensive. Finch emphasized the importance of having a bowler who can take wickets across all three phases of the game, particularly in T20 cricket, where taking wickets is crucial, especially on flat pitches.

Michael Clarke also shared his surprise at Rauf's exclusion, noting that playing conditions in Australia differ from those in Sri Lanka or India. He explained that teams often select players based on the conditions they are expected to play in and their specific roles within the team. According to Clarke, the role Rauf plays in BBL may not be suited to the conditions expected in the World Cup.

He also pointed out that a player's current form is a key factor when making selections for a tournament like the World Cup.

Clarke further added that the selection process aimed to ensure that players enter the tournament in good form and with the ability to deliver consistent performances.
