ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government of Pakistan has reaffirmed its ambition to transform the country into a $3 trillion economy by 2047, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to drive export-led growth.
The MoU was formalized during a joint press conference in Islamabad by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal and FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, where both sides pledged close collaboration to strengthen Pakistan’s economic foundations through enhanced exports and private sector participation.
Ahsan Iqbal stressed that sustainable economic independence is impossible without a major surge in exports, noting that reliance on repeated IMF programs could only end if Pakistan significantly expands its export base. He described the government’s flagship initiative, “Uraan Pakistan,” as a comprehensive roadmap aimed at long-term economic stability, productivity growth, and global competitiveness.
Calling for political maturity and economic unity, the planning minister urged the business community to play a proactive role in ensuring national stability. “Pakistan has seen enough political long marches. The need of the hour is an economic long march,” he said, adding that the country’s future hinges on a resilient economy and a stable business environment.
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh said the MoU would strengthen coordination between the government and the private sector, enabling policy alignment, investment facilitation, and export-oriented reforms. He emphasized that meaningful public-private cooperation is critical for achieving sustained growth and positioning Pakistan as a competitive player in global markets.
