LHC seeks written assurance from PERA Force in land possession case

Updated on:

The court subsequently directed the PERA Force’s lawyer to submit the written assurance.

LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) The Lahore High Court (LHC) heard a petition against the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) Force for allegedly facilitating illegal possession of 10 kanals of land in Kot Radha Kishan. The court directed the counsel for the PERA Force to submit a written statement stating that the force did not hand over possession of the land.

Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Aalia Neelum, heard the petition filed by Muhammad Fayaz. The petitioner maintained that he owns 21 kanals of inherited land in Kot Radha Kishan.

He stated that out of this, he personally purchased 10 kanals of land, which is registered in his name. Instead of distributing the inherited property, the PERA Force allegedly helped family members take possession of his personally owned 10 kanals. He requested the court to order the removal of the occupation facilitated by the Para Force.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice questioned whether the PERA Force had the authority to hand over possession, asking how and under what powers it could do so.

The counsel for the PERA Force responded that the force did not hand over possession and that it may have been done by a revenue officer. The Chief Justice remarked that a revenue officer was irrelevant for the court and instructed the counsel to submit a written statement confirming that the PERA Force was not involved in taking possession.

The court subsequently directed the PERA Force’s lawyer to submit the written assurance.
