Pakistan army launches swift rescue operations in Orakzai and Kurram amid heavy snowfall

PARACHINAR (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Army has launched immediate rescue and relief operations in Orakzai and Kurram districts following heavy rainfall and snowfall that blocked key roads and disrupted daily life.

In Orakzai, severe snowfall had completely cut off access to several areas, including the village of Kalaya Darbar, hindering transportation and delaying funerals.

The army deployed heavy machinery and personnel to clear the roads, allowing locals to conduct funeral prayers and burials with dignity.

Despite extremely harsh weather conditions, the operation was successfully completed.

Similarly, in Kurram district, the army initiated emergency rescue efforts. Using heavy machinery, the 8-kilometer Taudo Obu Road was restored, while the Manato Sada Road remained closed due to continuous snow. Several vehicles stranded due to road closures were safely rescued and transported to secure locations.

SDMA releases report on snowfall damages in Azad Kashmir

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has released details of the damages caused by recent snowfall in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

A landslide in the Bagh district during the snowfall resulted in the death of one person. Additionally, 11 houses were completely destroyed, while eight others suffered partial damage due to landslides and avalanches, SDMA said in its report

It added that that the main highway from the capital to Pir Chinasi is currently blocked due to the snow, although the route from the capital to Sharda in Neelum Valley has been reopened.

Restoration work is ongoing in higher altitude areas and on the blocked roads in Neelum Valley. The road leading from Hattian Bala to Leepa Valley has been cleared up to Dawakhan.

Furthermore, SDMA has advised citizens to avoid traveling due to slippery conditions, as efforts to restore roads in the Leepa Valley and other upper regions affected by the snowfall are underway.
