LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to complete the ongoing Punjab Development Plan by June 2026, aiming to make the province cleaner, more beautiful, and modern.
The directive was issued during a special meeting chaired by the chief minister, in which a detailed review of all projects under the Punjab Development Plan was conducted to ensure transparency and timely completion.
Deputy Commissioners from Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Vehari, Wazirabad, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, and Kasur presented progress reports directly to the chief minister. Maryam Nawaz stressed the need to fast-track sewerage, drainage, and other essential infrastructure projects across all cities.
To ensure effective implementation, control rooms will be established at provincial and district levels, enabling real-time monitoring of all projects. The chief minister will personally oversee progress to ensure accountability.
Under the Punjab Development Plan, 5,887 kilometres of sewerage lines and 181 drainage lines will be constructed across 51 cities. Additionally, under the “Sohna Punjab” initiative, 100 kilometres of roads and streets will be paved to provide citizens with safer and more dignified living conditions.
In Multan, the plan includes the construction of 232 kilometres of sewerage lines, 81 pumping stations, 51 generators, and 64 kilometres of urban roads, along with the expansion and beautification of major arteries including Bosan Road and Nishtar Road.
In Dera Ghazi Khan, sewerage and drainage projects worth over Rs12.5 billion will be completed. Bhakkar will receive modern sewerage lines, solar-powered disposal stations, parks, and walkways. Special instructions were also issued to improve sanitation, beautification, and healthcare facilities in Vehari, Sheikhupura, and Kasur.
