LAHORE (Dunya News) - In the case of an alleged 20-kilogram gold fraud in Ichhra, police have recovered nearly two kilograms of gold, short by 16 grams, from accused Waseem Akhtar.
Sources said that cash amounting to Rs30 million and a luxury vehicle were also recovered from the suspect, who had been living with his wife and children in a rented house in Islamabad.
According to investigators, the accused sold his old mobile phone and purchased a new one, through which he was traced via call records. During interrogation, Waseem Akhtar claimed he did not take 20 kilograms of gold.
Sources further revealed that the suspect stated some of the gold he took was fake.
It is worth noting that traders from the Ichhra Gold Market had filed a complaint regarding fraud involving 20 kilograms of gold. Around 40 applications have been received against the accused, while 10 cases have already been registered against Waseem Akhtar at Ichhra police station.
