LAHORE (Dunya News) - On the second day of the prestigious ThinkFest 2026, Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik delivered a compelling address at the Alhamra Arts Council, framing the global climate crisis not just as an environmental disaster, but as a failure of international cooperation and justice.
During a high-stakes session titled "From Lab to World Stage: The Power of Science Diplomacy," Malik highlighted the inextricable link between power and science. He argued that the era of isolated research must end, giving way to "scientific diplomacy." According to Malik, science serves as the ultimate bridge between nations, capable of transcending political friction through joint research initiatives and shared global projects.
“Science is the only language that remains universal,” Malik asserted. He emphasized that for developing nations like Pakistan—which contributes less than 1% of global carbon emissions yet remains highly vulnerable—scientific collaboration is a survival mechanism rather than a luxury.
A significant portion of his discourse focused on global accountability. Malik pointed out the stark disparity between financial profit and environmental cost, noting that the countries benefiting most from carbon-heavy industries are often those least affected by the immediate fallout. He called for a worldwide mechanism to hold high-emitting nations financially accountable. "It is fundamentally wrong for profit to be privatized by the few while the climatic consequences are socialized among the many," he stated.
The session resonated with a packed audience, positioning Pakistan as a leading voice for "climate justice" and urging a paradigm shift where data and ethics drive global policy.
