ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging the formation of a high-level, impartial commission to investigate Gul Plaza fire incident.
In his letter, Siddiqui called for the inclusion of multiple agencies, such as FIA, NAB, and NDMA, in the inquiry commission. He also emphasized the need for the federal government and law enforcement agencies to immediately take charge of rescue and relief operations to secure human remains and valuable belongings.
The letter further demands the establishment of a federal relief and rehabilitation fund to support the families of the victims and those affected.
It highlights that over 12,000 families have been directly impacted by the incident, with many people still missing after seven days, and relatives unable to recover the bodies of their loved ones.
Siddiqui pointed out that the Sindh government, local authorities, and relevant departments were directly responsible for the fatalities and financial losses.
He accused the Sindh government, Karachi's mayor, SBCDA, and other agencies of gross negligence in handling the situation.
