Over 5,900 kite flying cases registered in three years, police tell LHC

Punjab Police told the Lahore High Court that 5,915 kite flying cases were registered from 2024–26, with 5,270 arrests, one death, multiple injuries and major recoveries of kites and deadly strings.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Police have submitted a detailed report to the Lahore High Court outlining enforcement actions taken against kite flying over the past three years. The report was presented by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore in a case currently under hearing regarding the ban on Basant celebrations.

According to the police report, a total of 5,915 cases were registered against kite flying between 2024 and 2026. The highest number of cases was recorded in 2024, with 3,534 FIRs, followed by 1,918 cases in 2025. During 2025, one citizen lost his life due to kite flying-related incidents.

The report further stated that 5,270 individuals involved in kite flying were arrested during the three-year period. In terms of injuries, 10 people were injured in 2024, while two injuries were reported in 2025. No loss of life or injuries has been reported so far in 2026.

Police also recovered more than 90,000 kites during enforcement operations. In a crackdown against hazardous materials, over 5,000 chemical and metallic kite strings were seized due to their dangerous nature.

Petition challenges Kite Flying Act 2025 in LHC

Authorities emphasized that strict implementation of the existing kite flying laws will continue, warning that any illegal activity will be met with immediate and effective action. It is worth noting that Advocate Azhar Siddique, along with other petitioners, has approached the Lahore High Court opposing any permission for kite flying.
