Murree closes to tourists ahead of heavy snowfall

Updated on:

Heavy snowfall has led to the closure of Tirah Road, leaving several vehicles stranded.

(Web Desk) - The local administration has temporarily banned tourist entry to Murree due to heavy snowfall, with the police issuing a 10-point travel advisory urging residents to avoid non-essential journeys.

Snow continues to fall in the hill station, prompting authorities and relevant departments to remain on high alert. The decision to ban tourists was taken to prevent any untoward incidents amid severe winter conditions.

Snow clearance operations are underway on major roads, but daily life in surrounding and remote areas has been significantly affected. Power supply has also been suspended in several localities due to the snowfall.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that the current spell of snowfall in Murree will continue until Friday evening.

Meanwhile, heavy snowfall has led to the closure of Tirah Road, leaving several vehicles stranded, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported. The district administration is conducting rescue operations to evacuate stranded passengers, providing them with food and relocating them to safer areas.

PDMA stated that Rescue 1122 has deployed 15 personnel from Peshawar to Tirah, along with recovery vehicles, ambulances, medical supplies, and rescue equipment. The PDMA Director General has directed all district administrations to stay alert and said he is personally monitoring the situation across the province.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel on snow-affected routes until weather conditions improve.
