Sindh govt approves over Rs21 billion for Karachi roads, infrastructure upgrade

The chief minister directed KMC to carry out rehabilitation work on 26 major roads in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has approved more than Rs21 billion for the improvement of roads and other infrastructure in Karachi.

An important meeting regarding the rehabilitation of roads in the port city was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, and senior officials from the Local Government Department and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

During the meeting, the chief minister approved a total of Rs21.53 billion for the improvement of Karachi’s infrastructure.

The rehabilitation of roads will improve traffic flow and promote economic activity in the city. Public convenience and urban safety remain the top priorities of the Sindh government.

The chief minister also approved a special grant of Rs13 billion for road rehabilitation. During the briefing, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab identified 409 dilapidated roads in the city that require repairs. According to the spokesperson for the chief minister, financial assistance has also been approved for 24 Town Municipal Corporations.

Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah informed the meeting that patchwork will be carried out on 400 roads across Karachi’s seven districts, while nine roads will be completely reconstructed. The total cost of road, sewerage, and water supply projects will be Rs12.57 billion.

The chief minister directed KMC to carry out rehabilitation work on 26 major roads in Karachi. In addition, he approved projects worth Rs8.53 billion related to roads, drains, and streetlights.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah instructed that all projects be completed transparently, with high quality and within stipulated timelines, and ordered the Finance Department to release the funds immediately.
