QUETTA (Dunya News) – The Balochistan cabinet has taken a historic step to resolve the missing persons issue on a permanent basis.
The decision was made during the 22nd provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, on Tuesday.
The cabinet approved the Balochistan Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism Rules 2025, which includes comprehensive measures for the investigation and protection of suspects and witnesses.
Chief Minister Bugti emphasized that many political groups have used the missing persons issue for propaganda, but the government has now permanently ended such narratives. He stated that suspects will be interrogated in authorized centers under the supervision of police officers, and family members will be allowed to meet them.
He added that legal proceedings of cases will be strengthened, and protection for witnesses and plaintiffs at terrorism sites will be ensured. He described the approval of these laws and rules as a major success of the provincial cabinet, stating that good governance is only possible through effective implementation of laws.
During the meeting, the cabinet also approved the Balochistan Prevention Detention and Radicalization Rules 2025.
In other decisions, the cabinet welcomed the merit-based recruitment process through online tests in the finance department and decided to digitize recruitment across all departments. The cabinet also approved the abolition of the Department of Religious Affairs, with its employees to be reassigned to other departments.
The cabinet discussed the creation of new divisions and districts, approving the establishment of Pishin and Koh Sulaiman divisions. Additionally, Ziarat will become part of the Loralai division.
