LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has decided to establish the Suthra Punjab Authority under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, following the approval of the Suthra Punjab Authority Bill 2025 by the Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Local Government.

According to the bill, the Suthra Punjab Authority will function as an autonomous corporate body. The chief minister will serve as the Chairperson of the authority, while the Minister for Local Government will act as its vice chairperson. Secretaries of various provincial departments and all divisional commissioners will be members of the authority.

The authority will be responsible for formulating policies, laws, standards, and regulations related to waste management, as well as the construction of landfill sites across the province.

At the district level, the Deputy Commissioner will serve as the Chairperson of the Suthra Punjab District Authority, which will have powers related to licensing, registration, and fee collection. District authorities will also appoint waste management inspectors.

The bill further states that the authority will be responsible for improving cleanliness and sanitation in rural areas. It will also have the power to impose service fees for sanitation-related services.

Additionally, decisions made by the Suthra Punjab Authority cannot be challenged directly in courts, as outlined in the legislation.
