Afghanistan beat West Indies by 38 runs in first T20I

Afghanistan posted 181 for three in their 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat and restricted West Indies to 143 for nine.

DUBAI (Agencies) - Afghanistan took a 1-0 lead in their three-match T20 international series against West Indies after a 38-run victory in the opening match on Monday.

Afghanistan posted 181 for three in their 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat at the Dubai International Stadium. Ibrahim Zadran top-scored with 87 off 56 balls, while Darwish Rasooli added 84 off 59 as the pair shared a dominant partnership.

In reply, West Indies were restricted to 143 for nine in their 20 overs despite late resistance. Johnson Charles scored 27, while Gudakesh Motie made 28 and Matthew Forde added 25 down the order.

Afghanistan’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Zia-ur-Rehman taking three for 36 and captain Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman claiming two wickets each.

The second match of the series will be played on Wednesday, with the third scheduled for Thursday, both in Dubai.
