KARACHI (Dunya News) – Heartbroken and livid traders have announced observing a day of mourning on Monday (today) in connection with Gul Plaza fire, which claimed precious human lives and property loss.

Chairman Karachi Traders' Alliance Atiq Mir said business activities will be partially suspended, solidarity will be expressed with the victims of the tragedy, prayer ceremonies will be held in the markets, and black flags will possibly be hoisted.

Atiq Mir further said that the Gul Plaza fire caused a loss of about 3 billion rupees, and the government should take immediate steps to help the victims.

The business community of Karachi has declared a day of mourning today over the fire at Gul Plaza, he said.

Earlier, talking to the media, traders have shown concern over insufficient resources to deal with such huge fire, which took precious lives of innocent people.

President of Gul Plaza Traders Association Tanveer Qasim, while talking to Dunya News, expressed his grief over the loss of life due to the fire.

‘No one cares about property, who will compensate for the loss of life? There are fears that many people are trapped inside the building. We are also unable to contact our 12 people,” he said.
