PM Shehbaz assures full support to Sindh govt after Karachi's Gul Plaza fire

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday contacted Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah by telephone and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the Gul Plaza fire incident.

The prime minister had taken immediate notice of the fire that broke out at Gul Plaza in Karachi a day earlier and directed federal institutions to provide full assistance to the Sindh government.

During the telephonic conversation, Shehbaz Sharif said that the federal government stands with the affected people and the Sindh government in this hour of grief and hardship.

He stressed that a coordinated and effective system is essential to ensure timely control of fires in densely populated urban areas, adding that the federal government is fully prepared to extend all possible cooperation to the provincial government in developing an integrated mechanism to prevent such incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, firefighting teams continued operations late Sunday night to extinguish the blaze that has been raging since the previous night at the Gul Plaza shopping mall, as Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah confirmed six fatalities and said that more than 58 people were still reported missing.

Talking to media during his visit to the fire-ravaged Gul Plaza, Murad Ali Shah said that some people are politicising the tragic incident.

The chief minister said that he was not in the city at the time of the incident and was informed late at night about the blaze.
