BAHAWALPUR (Web Desk) - Police in Khairpur Tamiwali tehsil have claimed that the main suspect involved in the desecration of a young girl’s grave was killed by firing from his own accomplices during a police encounter.

According to a police spokesperson, the suspect, Abdul Wahid alias Kala, a resident of Basti Sardaran, was hiding in the Hamidabad area along with three accomplices due to fear of arrest. Late at night, a police team conducted a raid on the hideout. Upon seeing the police party, the suspects allegedly opened fire.

The spokesperson stated that after the firing stopped, the police found Abdul Wahid in a critically injured condition, while his accomplices fled the scene.

During the crossfire, a bullet fired by the suspects hit Head Constable Ali Raza; however, he remained safe due to wearing a bulletproof jacket.

Rescue 1122 was called to the scene, and efforts were made to save the injured suspect, but he succumbed to his wounds.

Police said an FIR (No. 9/26) has been registered against the fleeing suspects, and raids are underway to arrest them.

Authorities are also investigating the motive behind the desecration of the grave and corpse.

According to the police, the 16-year-old girl was buried on Sunday evening, but her body was found missing from the grave on Monday morning. The body was allegedly desecrated and later dumped in nearby fields.

Police added that the girl’s family members and local residents are being questioned. Investigations are also ongoing to determine whether the girl died due to electrocution or was murdered.

Further action will be taken after the forensic report is received, police said.
