ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to end its boycott of the National Assembly and will participate in today’s session.
The PPP had boycotted the assembly session a day earlier after an ordinance was issued without the approval of the president.
Meanwhile, the real reason behind the absence of presidential assent on the Special Economic Zones Ordinance has come to light.
According to sources in the federal government, the said ordinance was sent to the Presidency along with six other bills and one additional ordinance. Approvals of summaries and files are processed through the e-Office system, and the Presidency collectively approved all bills and ordinances via e-Office.
Sources said that, based on the e-Office approval, the ordinance was issued. However, when the files were returned from the Presidency, the ordinance in question did not carry the President’s signature. As a result, the federal government has withdrawn the ordinance.
Federal government sources added that the ordinance will now be presented in Parliament in the form of a bill.
