Info ministry dismisses social media claims linking Pakistan to potential US strike on Iran

Updated on:

The ministry clarified that no evidence exists to support claims that US aircraft are operating from Pakistani territory against Iran

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has strongly denied claims circulating on social media alleging that Pakistan is being used as a base or transit corridor to support the United States in a possible military strike against Iran, amid escalating tensions and protests in the country.

In a statement issued through its official fact-check account on X, the ministry described the allegations as baseless disinformation and attributed them to what it termed “propaganda networks operating from Afghanistan” and several Indian-linked social media accounts.

The ministry specifically identified three accounts — Khurasan Media Urdu, Baba Banaras, and Afghan Defense — as the primary sources spreading the claims.

According to the ministry, posts from these accounts alleged that US military aircraft, including aerial refuelling, surveillance, and reconnaissance planes, had arrived in Pakistan to support imminent strikes on Iran.

One post claimed that “special American aircraft” had landed in Pakistan, while others cited so-called “unusual” flight activity of US aircraft near Iranian airspace.

Another post alleged that US reconnaissance and cargo planes carrying weapons had landed at Dalbandin and Pasni airbases in Balochistan.

Rejecting these assertions, the information ministry clarified that no credible evidence exists to support claims that US aircraft are operating from Pakistani territory or that Pakistan is facilitating any military action against Iran.

“No credible international outlet has confirmed that US KC-135R refuelling aircraft or intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms are based in Pakistan,” the ministry said.

The ministry acknowledged reports of increased US aerial refuelling activity but stressed that these movements were linked to Europe, not Pakistan.

It cited a June 2025 report stating that the US had repositioned a significant number of refuelling aircraft to European bases as tensions rose in the Middle East.

Reiterating Pakistan’s official position, the ministry recalled that Islamabad had publicly condemned previous US strikes on Iran during the recent conflict involving Iran and Israel, underscoring that Pakistan does not support military aggression against its neighbour.

“These allegations are a reckless attempt to drag Pakistan into a US-Iran conflict without any verifiable proof,” the ministry said, adding that claims of US aircraft arriving in Pakistan for strikes on Iran were “pure disinformation.”

The false reports have emerged amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, with US President Donald Trump warning Iran of possible action over its crackdown on ongoing protests.

Iran, which has accused the US and Israel of stoking unrest, has warned of retaliation against American and Israeli targets if attacked, while maintaining that it remains open to negotiations under conditions of mutual respect.
