Govt decides to keep electricity base tariff unchanged

Updated on:

The federal govt has decided not to increase electricity tariffs, citing subsidy adjustments and improved production costs. A total of Rs629 billion in subsidies ensures affordable rates for consumers

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has decided not to increase the average base tariff for electricity.

During a recent hearing at the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), additional secretary of the Power Division briefed officials, explaining that adjustments to subsidies have allowed the government to avoid hiking tariffs.

They further clarified that there have been significant changes in the energy mix since July, which have improved production costs.

This has made it possible to provide relief to consumers without the need to hike tariffs.

Currently, electricity consumers across all categories are being provided a total subsidy of Rs629 billion, ensuring that electricity remains available to the public at affordable rates.
