Akbar S Babar holds Imran Khan responsible for May 9 riots

Babar alleged that PTI’s politics endangered national security

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding member Akbar S Babar has declared former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan directly responsible for the violent incidents of May 9, claiming that Khan will also be convicted in this case.

Speaking in an interview with a private television channel, Akbar S Babar said Pakistan should not witness the rise of “another Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.” He argued that if the government had implemented the verdict in the PTI foreign funding case in time, the May 9 incident could have been prevented.

Babar alleged that PTI’s politics endangered national security, stating that while he does not wish to label Imran Khan a traitor, it is the Supreme Court’s responsibility to determine such matters. He further claimed that the PTI founder was seeking to have his cases settled through negotiations with the establishment.

Akbar S Babar maintained that all allegations he raised against PTI had been proven in courts. He criticized the party’s governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying it was pushing the province back toward “the stone age.”

He also accused PTI leaders of lacking the courage to shoulder the coffins of martyrs and questioned why PTI supporters hesitate to label terrorists as terrorists. “If Pakistan’s defense is not strong, do we expect India to show us mercy?” he asked.

Opposing the appointment of opposition leaders nominated by Imran Khan, Akbar S. Babar said that appointing opposition leaders proposed by a convicted individual would be unlawful.
