Election Commission notifies Abid Sher Ali as senator

Election Commission notified PML-N leader Abid Sher Ali as senator after unopposed December 8 election, following withdrawal of candidates and vacancy by Irfan Siddiqui’s death.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Election Commission has issued the notification of Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Abid Sher Ali as a senator.

He was elected unopposed on December 8 after two other candidates—Ahsan Afzal Khan and Abdul Jabbar—withdrew their nomination papers. No candidate from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf filed nomination papers for the seat.

During the process, Chief Election Commissioner restrained Abid Sher Ali from speaking, remarking that the secrecy of the vote had been compromised.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Abid Sher Ali on his unopposed victory and extended best wishes for the future. The Senate seat had fallen vacant following the death of PML-N senator Irfan Siddiqui.
