QUETTA (Dunya News) - The number of hepatitis cases is increasing in the province, Dr Amir Ali Bugti, Coordinator of Hepatitis Control Programme Balochistan, has said revealed.
The number of hepatitis cases has started increasing in Balochistan, the health official said, stressing effective measures to check the surge.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Amir Ali Bugti, Coordinator of the Hepatitis Control Programme Balochistan, said that Hepatitis B and C are called silent killers, but they can be cured through timely diagnosis.
He said that from 2023 to 2024, 132,300 people were screened in Balochistan, of which 8,617 people were found to be suffering from Hepatitis B and 5,817 people were found to be suffering from Hepatitis C. Free BCR facilities were provided from 2024 to 2025.
Dr Amir Ali Bugti said that Hepatitis B cases have increased to 10,225, while Hepatitis C cases have increased to 5,817.
More than 2,000 Hepatitis D patients have been treated free of charge in 3 years.
He added said that hepatitis centres have been established in 36 districts of Balochistan, and screening of prisoners and prison staff was conducted in 12 prisons of the province, where 61 cases of hepatitis B and 93 cases of hepatitis C were reported.
