PESHAWAR (Web Desk) - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has amended the Judicial Service Rules, removing the two-year legal practice requirement for appointment as a civil judge.
According to the notification, Rule 5 of the Judicial Service has been revised, eliminating seniority and fitness as criteria, with future selections to be made solely on merit.
The notification states that promotions will be made based on recommendations from the Departmental Promotion Committee. Regular promotions from BPS-19 to BPS-21 will not be possible without completing the required service.
It also mandates completion of training and passing examinations as prerequisites for promotion.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has rejected the new procedure for appointing civil judges, urging the government to reverse the decision to appoint judges without prior experience.
