IHC overturns sentences of Islamabad DC, SSP in contempt case

Updated on:

Islamabad High Court annulled contempt of court sentences against DC Islamabad and SSP Operations for issuing a 3 MPO order, despite a court directive. The previous ruling was quashed.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court has annulled the contempt of court sentences imposed on the deputy commissioner (DC) of Islamabad and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations.

A single-bench of the high court had awarded sentences to them for issuing 3 MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) order, despite a clear court directive not to do so.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan, quashed the ruling issued by Justice Babar Sattar.

Justice Sattar had previously sentenced District Magistrate Irfan Nawaz Memon to six months in prison, while SSP Operations Malik Jameel Zafar was given a four-month sentence and the SHO was sentenced to two months for contempt of court.
