Lahore (Dunya News) – A new era of public shopping has begun in “Modern Punjab” with the introduction of modern fruit and vegetable markets across the province’s wholesale markets.
All water filtration plants have been restored in the modern vegetable markets to ensure the availability of clean drinking water for buyers and commission agents. New staff and a waste collection system have been introduced, while clean and fully functional toilets are now available in 188 modern vegetable markets across Punjab.
Help desks have been set up for buyers and rate boards have been displayed. More than 266,000 streetlights have become operational in the modern markets. Green waste from these markets will be used to produce biogas and poultry feed. Drainage systems have been fully restored in every market, and covers have been installed on all manholes.
For the first time in Punjab, a “tracking on wheels” system has been implemented to maintain records of the supply and demand of fruits and vegetables. Every truck carrying fruits and vegetables into Punjab has been linked to the Safe City Authority’s tracking system. Modern vegetable markets will be established in Pakpattan, Kasur, Sahiwal, Mian Channu, Sheikhupura, and Mandi Bahauddin.
To provide affordable fruits and vegetables to the people of Murree, a dedicated supply chain system has been set up, ensuring availability at wholesale rates.
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the adoption of modern farming techniques to ensure the supply of off-season vegetables. She has also ordered strict action against price control magistrates who deceive the public, including dismissal from service and imprisonment. Approval has also been granted to recruit market committee secretaries on merit through the Public Service Commission.
Maryam Nawaz stated that the mafia culture has been eliminated from Punjab and will no longer be allowed to take root. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing affordable bread and flour to the public, announced surprise visits to fruit and vegetable markets, and said that the remarkable development work in Punjab has compelled other provinces to follow its example.
