Punjab’s new CRMIS app enables digital filing of births, deaths, marriages and divorces while integrating union councils with the central identification database.

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Punjab has introduced the country’s first e-registration facility, enabling citizens to record births, deaths, marriages and divorces online through a newly launched mobile application.

The initiative, developed by the Punjab Local Government Department in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), aims to streamline vital records and bring services directly to residents.

The e-registration system was formally launched in Lahore, where Punjab Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafiq inaugurated the CRMIS app. The ceremony was attended by Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed, NADRA Chief Operating Officer Syed Abdul Salam and Special Secretary Arshad Baig.

Through the app, citizens can complete registrations from home, accessing a digital service that removes the need for repeated office visits. According to the minister, the platform is linked with NADRA’s data system, enabling automatic updates in the national database. He added that the agreement between the Local Government Department and NADRA paved the way for this system, which was developed within a few months and will also provide access to official certificates.

Zeeshan Rafiq described the app as an important milestone in Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Digital Punjab vision, noting that Punjab is adopting modern technology to match global standards. He stated that accurate data will be compiled once details of marriages, births, deaths and divorces are recorded digitally, strengthening provincial records.

The minister said the system will connect to union councils across Punjab, ensuring comprehensive coverage of vital statistics. He highlighted that the twenty-first century belongs to information technology and that every sector is rapidly digitising. Expressing gratitude to NADRA for its cooperation, he said serving citizens remains the department’s core mission.

Zeeshan Rafiq added that mobile registration services will be introduced for remote areas, ensuring access for residents in hard-to-reach communities. He said the government intends to reach citizens directly rather than requiring them to visit offices, adding that Punjab has positioned itself as a role model in public service delivery.

NADRA announced that individuals using the e-registration system will automatically receive a Form-B number. In the next phase, a birth and death notification tool will be added to the app. Abdul Salam said lady health workers have also been linked with the system to support data accuracy and outreach.

Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed directed officials to run a strong public awareness campaign to promote the app. He stated that the digital platform now provides convenient access to essential services from home and frees citizens from delays and the inconvenience of visiting multiple offices.
