Pakistan, UK sign new climate cooperation pact

Federal Minister Musadik Malik and the UK Minister for Development signed the cooperation agreement.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) — Pakistan and the United Kingdom have finalised an agreement for cooperation in the field of climate change.

Federal Minister Musadik Malik and the UK Minister for Development signed the cooperation agreement.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik said that Pakistan and the UK have been cooperating for many years in the area of climate change, and Pakistan is severely affected by its impacts.

He stated that 4,700 people have lost their lives in floods, while 17,000 have been injured or disabled. Floods have displaced 40 million people, and the damage caused represents a significant portion of the country’s GDP.

Musadik Malik added that Pakistan and the UK are continuing their cooperation in the climate sector.

Addressing the ceremony, the UK Minister for Planning said that the UK–Pakistan Green Compact agreement holds great importance for environmental protection. She added that both countries aim to work together under this program.

She said the purpose of the program is to protect the people of both countries from the negative effects of climate change.
