LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Wednesday that protecting human rights is the core vision and top priority of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

In her message on International Human Rights Day, the chief minister said the first complete charter of human rights was delivered in the Farewell Sermon, adding that Islam is the greatest advocate of human rights. “The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) presented an extraordinary charter of human rights and gave humanity an eternal and universal message,” she stated.

Maryam Nawaz said that December 10 is observed worldwide to raise awareness about the importance of human rights, emphasizing that every individual has equal rights regardless of race, religion, gender or status. “Respect for human rights is the foundation of a developed and prosperous society,” she added.

CM Punjab reiterated that promoting human rights reflects the vision of PML-N, highlighting the government’s focus on education, healthcare, religious freedom, freedom of expression and access to basic necessities. “The Punjab government is fully committed to upholding human rights, and we aim to build a society where every citizen enjoys equal opportunities, justice and dignity.”

The CM stressed that spreading love, respect and tolerance is essential for protecting human rights, adding that ensuring basic rights is the hallmark of a civilized society. “Safeguarding the fundamental rights of citizens is the foremost responsibility of the state,” she said.

Maryam Nawaz further stated that the Punjab government has taken practical steps for protection of citizens’ rights, including measures for ending forced labour, ensuring religious freedom and providing justice without discrimination.
