LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has appointed Imran Khawar Siddiqui, son of late Irfan Siddiqui, as Adviser to the Chief Minister.

According to official sources, the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) Punjab has issued the notification of his appointment.

Party insiders revealed that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif initially wanted Imran Khawar Siddiqui to be nominated for the vacant Senate seat following the death of Irfan Siddiqui. However, he was found ineligible to contest the Senate election due to his current government position.

Imran Khawar Siddiqui is serving as the head of the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT), a role for which he receives a salary from the provincial government. This official status disqualified him from participating in the Senate polls under existing election regulations.

With the issuance of the notification, he will now formally serve as Adviser to the Chief Minister on provincial matters.

Notably, Irfan Siddiqui was the chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and the PML-N’s parliamentary leader in the Senate.
