LAHORE (Dunya News) - International Human Rights Day is being observed across the globe, including in Pakistan today (Wednesday) with aim to raise awareness and encourage action to uphold human rights globally.
Human Rights Day is observed annually on December 10 to commemorate the adoption and proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948.
Human Rights Day was officially established during the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on December 4, 1950, with the declaration of resolution 423 (V) by the General Assembly. Member states were invited to celebrate the day.
As a “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations”, the UDHR is a global blueprint for international, national, and local laws and policies and a bedrock of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
It is available in 577 languages, from Abkhaz to Zulu, making the UDHR the most translated document in the world.
The theme for Human Rights Day 2025 is "Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials," focusing on how fundamental rights like dignity, equality, access to food, water, and safety are part of daily life and often overlooked, encouraging people to reconnect with these principles for a better world.
The campaign highlights that human rights are positive, essential, and achievable, aiming to show their direct impact on everyone's needs and aspirations.
