Transporters call off strike after talks with minister; Mazda drivers refuse to follow suit

A rift has emerged among the transporters after negotiations with the government

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Transport owners have called off wheel-jam strike after dialogue with Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar, with reports that Mazda transporters have refused to follow suit, demanding suspension of the Traffic Ordinance 2025, Dunya News reported here on Monday.

A rift has emerged among transporters after negotiations with the government. In a meeting with Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, a region-wise focal person was appointed to resolve the issues.

Mazda transporters refused to end the strike and announced continuing the strike until the notification of suspension of the Traffic Ordinance 2025 was issued.

On the other hand, Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb denied withdrawing the traffic ordinance.

The senior minister said that no order has been issued to stop the implementation of the traffic ordinance, adding such speculations are just lies.

It should be noted that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has again issued an order for effective and strict implementation of the law related to traffic rules in Punjab, and directed that those who do not comply with the traffic rules will be dealt with strictly.

She said that they will not compromise on the lives of the people and children.

It may be recalled that the transporters alliance urged the Punjab government to immediately withdraw the Traffic Ordinance 2025. Representatives said the proposed measures would place an excessive burden on the sector, citing what they described as disproportionately high fines and penalties. They stated that the new regulations had made the movement of goods increasingly difficult.

Transport leaders added that drivers had been turned into “criminals” under the current enforcement approach, with cases being filed against them across various routes. They also highlighted discrepancies in licensing fees, noting that while the driving licence fee across the country stands at Rs1,200, it is Rs12,000 in Punjab.
