LHC refuses to suspend Punjab Motor Vehicle Ordinance 2025

Updated on:

Court issued notices to the Punjab government and others, seeking a reply within two weeks.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected a request to immediately suspend the Punjab Motor Vehicle Ordinance 2025.

During the hearing of a petition challenging the ordinance, the court issued notices to the Punjab government and others, seeking a reply within two weeks.

Justice Farooq Haider heard the petition filed by Advocate Azhar Siddique, who argued that the ordinance has increased fines and citizens are facing heavy penalties and criminal cases. He contended that an ordinance cannot be issued when parliament is in session and urged the court to declare it unconstitutional. He also requested the suspension of the ordinance until the final decision.

The court, however, refused to grant immediate suspension and stated that any decision regarding halting implementation will be made after receiving replies from all parties. The hearing was adjourned for two weeks.
